The Key to Healthier Eating: Eat More Often
The best way to lose weight or to just be healthier is to limit what you eat, right? Wrong! That’s not how our bodies work. The truth is that you need to eat more often.
Understand the Body
Just because something makes sense doesn’t mean it makes sense to the body. Our bodies are highly complex organisms that have specific ways to work to ensure our survival. When you don’t eat, the body adjusts to that in order to survive. You’d be surprised how opposite it is of what you really want from your body.
If you were in a situation where you were being starved, your body would step up to help you live. How? As your body sees itself being deprived of needed nutrients, it slows down. Everything slows down including your metabolism. The body burns less fat. Why? It needs that fat to survive. Your body doesn’t know how long you’ll be in that situation.
This means that if you starve yourself to lose weight your body will actually slow down and not allow weight to be lost as its normal speed. Your body is trying to preserve energy and not use it up. This is not what you want for weight loss.
Eat Throughout the Day
The secret is to eat throughout the day. Don’t just give your body one big meal to pull what it needs. Supply it throughout the day the vitamins, minerals, and even fat it needs.
Having healthy foods around you all the time is good because eating throughout the day could become dangerous. Have a healthy breakfast. A few hours later have a snack. Make it some fruit or vegetables. Have lunch. A few hours later have another snack. See the pattern? Keeping your body fueled is important.
Just eating all day is not the answer. It could become your biggest problem. You need to be careful about following this plan.
- Doctor – Always talk to your doctor before starting a weight loss plan. Explain to him what you are planning on doing. He’ll give you advice, tips, and any specific cautions you need for your individual health.
- Be Particular – Don’t just eat any food. Be particular in what you eat. For that mid-morning snack, donuts are out. Choose a peach instead. Eating more often is not telling you to eat everything in sight all the time.
- Quantity – As in the type of foods you eat, you shouldn’t be eating a ton of food each time. Breakfast should be the right amount for you. You don’t need a dozen scrambled eggs. Have one with a side of toast, a piece of fruit, and a glass of milk. Talk with your doctor about what is right for you. For snacks eat one apple. Don’t eat five or six.
The key to successful eating habits is to pay attention to what you eat, limit what you eat, and give your body what it needs. Success will be around the corner for you.
