Silly Summer Water Play
It’s hot, and it’s almost summer! Do you remember those long summer days, with the oppressive heat and the desperate need to cool down? I do! Then the water balloons or sprinkler would come out, and all would be well! If it’s bathing suit weather where you are, get ready for silly summer water play with these water toys.
Splish, Splash With Water Toys!
Are you ready to get soaked? If you don’t have a pool or a yard, you can still get nice and cool with water balloons and other wacky water toys. Water balloons are still the same little plastic wonders that they were when you were a kid, except today they have filling stations. Yes, there are hose attachments and even special pumps to boost your balloon production. Whoop! Head to the park or the yard to have a good game of water pelting. Just remember to clean up the pieces afterward, since they’re a hazard to wildlife.
A more bird-friendly alternative to the water balloon is the sponge ball. These little balls are brilliant. Toss them into a bucket of water, and they soak it up. Then throw them at your friends, and collect them when you’re done. The bonus of the sponge ball? There are no little pieces to pick up, and you don’t need to pause the game to pump up more water balloons.
Water guns are a perennial favorite as well. Choose a smaller water pistol for younger children, while the older ones can run around with giant Super Soakers and blast their friends.
The Modern Sprinkler
You loved running through the sprinkler. Watching it gradually move from side to side or round and round was the best part. You’d wonder when you were going to get sprayed, and then before you knew it, you were soaked!
Today, there are sprinkler attachments to make the water spin, whirl, and cascade into the air. How about the beach ball sprinkler? It moves water through a beach ball so that it looks like the ball has sprung a leak! Super Soaker also has a wacky sprinkler volcano called the Tiki Soki. Enjoy the drenching as the sprinkler erupts into the air. Wildlife-lovers will also enjoy the wiggling snake water toy. It’s a long snake that has water coming out of it every which-way!
In the Pool
If you have a pool, you’re all wet. Get even wetter with amazing pool games! My favorite is the Waboba ball. This ball bounces, which is common enough. However, this tiny ball looks like it would sink, but instead it bounces on top of the water without ever sinkng. It’s perfect for a game of catch with the kids.
How about some games to encourage underwater play? Choose from a selection of dive sticks to encourage the kids to swim underwater to bring them to the surface. I also love the floating pool rings, a collection of hula hoops that sit upright in the water so that the children can swim through.
And what would pool time be like without a water cannon? For those with a more explosive nature, these cannons are designed to shoot water up to 30 feet in the air. Yikes!
Whether you’re in the pool or out of it, water toys will help you and the kids keep your cool this summer.
