Get Salon Style at Home: Hair Appliance Buying Guide
Wish you could create a salon-perfect hairstyle at home? You can! Just follow this guide to find the tools you need for your hair type and style.
Curls
Gorgeous curls are only a hairstyle away when you have the right tools. Starting with clean hair, blow dry hair with a diffuser attachment. Once hair is dry, use a wide-barrel curling iron for bigger, bouncier curls or a 1″ curling iron for tighter curls.
Waves
Achieve beachy fuss-free waves even if you’re miles from the seashore. Start with clean hair, blow dry hair with a diffuser attachment, scrunching hair with fingers as you dry. Once hair is dry, use a multi-barrel waver at different points and angles throughout your hair to create randomly placed waves, being careful to keep it messy or you’ll end up looking crimped.
Silky Straight
For straight, silky hair, wash hair and apply a leave-in conditioner. Towel dry hair and wait until hair is mostly dry. Using a round brush and hair dryer with concentrator attachment, roll up 1″ sections of hair and aim dryer at hair from root to tip, keeping the dryer moving to avoid burning hair. Clip up hair that isn’t being dried to keep it damp and out of the way. Make sure each section is dry before moving on to the next section. Apply a small amount of healing oil like Moroccan Argan Oil or Keratin-based styling lotion to seal and protect hair. Finish styling with a straightening iron, working on 1″ sections around the head from back to front.
Thickness and Volume
To volumize thinner hair and maximize your style, wash and towel dry hair. Then turn your head upside down and blow dry hair with a volumizing attachment. Scrunch hair with fingers as you dry for a messier look. For big straight style, using the dryer with a concentrator nozzle, roll hair in 1″ sections using a big round brush, starting at the top of your head and rolling brush up and under hair, aiming the dryer at the roots but keeping the heat source moving to avoid burning the sensitive scalp area.
